After the Festival?

If you're already in Scotland for the Edinburgh Festival, why not head north after you've had your fill of partying and chill out with a champagne mini-break at Mackays Hotel in Wick, Caithness - about as high up in the highlands as you can go, and handy for the ferry to Orkney too. It's £69 per person per night for dinner, bed and breakfast. The offer, to the end of August, is based on two people sharing a minimum two night stay. They throw in the gorgeous scenery - a favorite with the late Queen Mother - and the mystical surroundings of Scottish castles, prehistoric and medieval ruins for free. Just like in the movies

Remember those European movies from the 1960s where the sexy young couple, zip through the villages of the Italian Riviera on their slick little Vespa while Sacha Distel croons the soundtrack? Okay, so maybe you don't remember. Just imagine it -- scooting around the South Coast on your own Piaggio Zip or Vespa LX50. Through the end of September Visit Brighton and Vroom by the Sea are offering a 10 per cent discount on rentals of these chic and tres European little machines. To find out more and print out the discount voucher, visit their website. It's much cheaper than driving a car and it's eco-friendly too. The company's rentals are carbon neutral.

Historic Sussex Hotels has a new, good value deal for golfers. The group's Spread Eagle Hotel and Spa in Midhurst is offering dinner, bed and breakfast - plus a round of golf - at award winning Cowdray Park Golf Club for £149.50 per person - based on two sharing a traditional room. Cowdray Park, an 18-hole, par 70, 6,212-yard course is considered by many golfers to be one of the most beautiful courses in the south of England. Imperial Comfort When You Visit An Emperor

The Eton Collection, a small group of European luxury hotels, is offering an excellent London package at two of its hotels, timed to coordinate with the British Museum's spectacular Hadrian: Empire and Conflict exhibition.

Stay during the exhibition at either the five-star Threadneedles (+44 (0)20 7657 8080), in the City of London, or The Academy(+44 (0)20 7631 4115), five Georgian homes right next to the British Museum, for very competitive bed and breakfast room rates. Between July 24 and October 26, the package - at £219 per room for the Academy and £250 per room for Threadneedles - includes two tickets for the exhibition - worth £12 each - and the exhibition book, by curator Thorsten Opper, worth £25. Breakfast at the hotels adds another £30 to £40 worth of value to the deal. To book, telephone the hotels or visit their website.

It's Free! My Favorite Phrase

When it comes to saving money, nothing beats that little four-letter word "Free". Visit Wales, the official Welsh Tourism organization, is clued up on that. In connection with the launch of their new website, they've produced a list of the Top 20 Free Attractions in Wales.

They range from the quirky National Wool Museum in Carmarthenshire to The Big Pit, a real coal mine and UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can explore the history of coal mining, iron works and the industrial revolution.

The attractions are mostly family friendly. And all provide a live link for more information. Check out their website.

Posh Family Breaks in London's Grandest Hotels

The Maybourne Group operates three of London's most famous hotels: Their Welcome Families break enables families of up to four to have memorable stays in these legendary places at relatively affordable prices. Family weekend breaks start at £395 for two superior king rooms - either adjoining or adjacent - suitable for two adults and two children. Youngsters receive a gift bag, specially prepared, according to their ages. To book, visit their website.

Save money - and the planet - along Hadrian's Wall

Save $$ and reduce your carbon footprint on the Hadrian's Wall AD122 Country Bus along the northern border of the Roman Empire from Newcastle to Bowness-on-Solway. The bus visits all the major attractions on the World Heritage Site. Single fare is £1. Rover tickets, for 1, 3 or 7 days unlimited travel start at £7.50 (£15 for a family of 5).Buy tickets onboard. The Cheapest Train Travel In Britain

The Great British Heritage Pass - Save a Bundle on Admission to Nearly Everything!

The Great British Heritage Pass, offered by VisitBritain to visitors from outside the United Kingdom, is one of the best deal's I've seen in a long time. For one flat fee -covering 4, 7, 15 or 30 days - pass holders get full admission to almost 600 different sites; family passes, for two adults and three kids under 16 are available too. Good value? Well VisitBritain compiled the cost of single adult tickets to the top 15 UK sites. The price came to £141.60. The cost of a Great British Heritage Pass for 15 days was £52 - that's a savings of £89. Even if you spread those 15 site visits over a month long pass (£70), you'd still save £71.60. That sounds like a great deal to me.
